Chef Demo with Joe Truex
of Watershed – 10:00 a.m. on 11/17

Chef Demos are sponsored by
Whole Foods Market
We fell in love with Chef Joe Truex at Repast and followed him down Ponce and back up again to his recent post at Watershed. There, he lends his Louisiana style to old favorites and his creative touch to new Southern inspirations. His culinary background includes training in New Orleans at Fairmont Hotel, graduating from The Culinary Institute of America in New York, working at the original Le Cirque under Chef Daniel Boulud, as well as stints in Basel, Switzerland and Las Vegas. We’re oh-so-glad that Chef Truex is now just a couple of blocks down from PRFM, bringing his knowledge of food and wine to bear on an ever-wonderful, ever-expanding Southern table.

Ask him about cooking at the James Beard house recently or about his upcoming Allman Brothers-inspired “Eat a Peach” dinner. Or maybe ask about brunch for supper. In layman's terms, keep an eye on this kid because his future’s as bright as his food is good (very, very good). To check out E.J.’s bio, head on over to our post from last year’s demo. April 14 is Opening Day!

It’s been a long, hot winter, y’all. But you know spring has arrived because this Saturday, April 14 is opening day at the Peachtree Road Farmers Market! Yes, Saturday will mark the sixth season that PRFM has blown into the parking lot at the Cathedral of St. Philip like a breath of fresh (local, happy, delicious) air. Stop by and welcome the good food and good people from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

New this year, look for Farm Burger Buckhead (you know, burgers), Pure Knead (gluten- and allergen-free baked goods), Simply Fresh (salads and such), Phickles Pickles (put-ups for snacking and cocktailing), Storico Fresco Pasta (your new Italian grandmother), and Cuisine (take-and-bake vegetarian meals). Check out the full list of your old favorite and new favorite vendors here.

Saturday’s Chef Demo at 10:00 a.m. brings a market fave, Local Three's Chef Chris Hall (who's bringing carrots, by the way). With a motto like this: “People Matter Most, Local Is Priority, Seasonal Makes Sense, Authenticity Rules, Quality Governs, Delicious Trumps, Pretense Stinks, Comfort Feels Good, Appreciation Tastes Better, Prudence Sustains It All” you know you’re in for a treat. So don’t miss some great food and tips from one of the coolest locals we know—last year he brought it with not one, but three (get it?) dishes. And you know he’ll bring it to the next level for opening day! For more on Chef Hall, check out our love note to him last year…here.

What next? It’s gonna be a season to remember. All the chef demos, kids’ activities, live music, and fun you’ve come to expect from the largest producer-only market in the metro PLUS a few surprises (Friday night PRFM complete with Iron Chef competition? Yes.)—so shop early and shop often cause it’s time to get your Market on!

P.S. If you’re in need of a couple recipes to go with all the yummy spring produce you’re going to pick up (think strawberries, asparagus, lettuce, carrots, beets, broccoli & more), just take a looksie at the 40 Real Simple posted here.

Good food is Lisa Rochon’s business—from party and menu planning to weekly meals to cooking classes, she’s got a fresh take. Market shoppers swooned over her Southern Soup and our celebrity judges chose Lisa’s Quick Pickled Turnips as their favorite. You won’t want to miss her demo this Saturday, as she cooks up some show-stopping Thanksgiving side dishes (you know, the ones that will make your mother-in-law do the swooning). Fall is in the air

This Week at PRFM
OK, we’re not going to lie, we may have done a “thank you, weather” dance this week because fall is definitely coming, y’all. With that crisp air comes pears and apples, so be sure and grab some at this week’s PRFM! And do a little dance, maybe (we won’t judge).

Chef Demo with Todd Ginsberg
of
Bocado — 10:00 a.m. on 9/10
Chef Demos are sponsored by
Whole Foods Market
He’s not just the guy who creates that amazingly delicious “other burger” over on the Westside. Well, he is that guy (thanks, Chef), but he’s also an honor grad from the Culinary Institute of America and has worked in some mighty fine kitchens—from the award-winning The Dining Room at The Ritz-Carlton in Atlanta to Paris’ acclaimed Lucas Carton restaurant to launching Madison's in Highlands, N.C. From there, Ginsberg moved to New York City where he applied his talents at the world-renowned Alain Ducasse. But we’re oh-so-glad he decided to return to the ATL, where he joined Concentrics Restaurants and made his mark as opening executive chef at TAP and went on to serve as chef at TROIS. Ginsberg’s since branched out on his own to open Bocado, now in its second year, to rave reviews—from being named one of Atlanta Magazine’s “Best New Restaurants” to one of AJC dining critic John John Kessler’s “new favorites” to a shout-out in The Wall Street Journal’s article “The New New South.” At Bocado, you can enjoy lunch and dinner featuring fresh produce from PRFM farmers, which is just another reason why we’ve got nothing but rave reviews for Chef Ginsberg, too. Oh, and that burger…

She learned as much as she could about eating habits that are both healthy for our bodies and for our environment. At the beginning of her junior year, Katie started a little business called Live Forever Muffins, selling vegan muffins to her friends and family. Today, she’s inspiring her loved ones to eat healthy, planning to study nutrition in college, and is excited about a life devoted to good health. This Week at PRFM

Chef Demo with
Drew Belline
10:00 a.m. on 7/9
Chef Demos are sponsored by
Whole Foods Market
When you think about it, PRFM produce is pretty lucky. Not only is it lovingly grown and harvested, but it’s utilized by the city’s top chefs each week (and by some pretty special shoppers, too)! This week is no exception—we are thrilled to welcome Chef Drew Belline to the Demo Tent, where he’ll wow you with what he does best; create exceptional cuisine based on local and seasonal ingredients (insert our lucky produce here). Belline formed this culinary foundation working under such highly esteemed chefs as Charlie Palmer and Tom Colicchio in NYC before returning to his home state of Georgia to serve as sous chef at Bacchanalia. There, he trained under renowned Chefs Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison before becoming the opening chef de cuisine for Quinones at Bacchanalia; at Quinones, Chef Belline designed a daily changing 12-course tasting menu and soon achieved his goal of a five star rating from the Atlanta Journal –Constitution. Since then, for the last four years, he has delighted guests as the chef de cuisine at Floataway Café. With such a lauded career, it’s no wonder Atlanta foodies just can’t wait for Belline’s next venture, as executive chef and partner (with none other than JCT. Kitchen’s Ford Fry) of No. 246, slated to open in Decatur this Tuesday, July 12—a locally-driven, Italian-inspired restaurant? Yes, please. A chef who cares about our lucky produce and counts among his hobbies fly fishing and foraging for mushrooms? One to check out, for sure.

Join the Peachtree Road Farmers Market for the in-town Atlanta premiere of GROW!, a film produced by Anthony-Masterson. A documentary about young, sustainable and organic farmers, GROW! captures the energy of a fresh crop of farmers who have turned to the fields for a fulfilling life. In GROW! they speak of both the joys and the challenges involved in tending the land. Filmed during an entire growing season on 12 farms throughout Georgia, GROW! provides an honest and inspiring look at this next generation of farmers. Anybody who appreciates the value of good, wholesome food grown close to home, who cares about our food supply and the future of farming, will want to see GROW!
