Slow Down with PRFM

Wednesday, April 26
4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Why sit in traffic when you can sit at a shady picnic table, luxuriating in some midweek shopping and ready-made dinner (with beer)! Tonight check out Chef Jenn Robbins, CrepeMasters, Heritage Farm, Little Tart Bakeshop, Midnight Marauder hot dogs, Simply Fresh, S&J Woodfired Pizza, and more! On tap is Orpheus Brewing, featuring their Serpent Bite, Lyric, and Atalanta Plum. Reminder, beer is cash donation only.

Saturday, April 29
8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

This Saturday grab some spring goodies (asparagus! strawberries! carrots! sugar snap peas!), listen to live music by Jon Payne, and swing by the Chef Demo at 10:00 a.m. with Stella Dillard of Storico Fresco. An Atlanta native, Stella started her culinary career at Woodfire Grill, then crossed the pond to explore England; there, she was fascinated by neighborhood butchers who had been buying game from hunters and meat from small local farms for centuries. Back in Atlanta, she became a butcher at Holeman & Finch, later worked at One Eared Stag and Star Provisions, and now at Storico Fresco, she looks forward to sharing local, sustainable, and authentic Italian foods with fellow Atlantans. Buon appetito!

From Our Market Manager

Peachtree Road Farmers Market is a home to so many people. Since its founding in 2007, we have become the state's largest producer-only farmers market, which means all items are sold by the farmer/maker with no reselling. Atlantans wanted farm-fresh produce, meats, and dairy, and the community supported the idea by supplying locally grown food and related products.

This year has been special as we've had another day to serve as a place for community. The addition of the Wednesday evening market series has provided all the delights of Saturday with a more casual pace. Families gather for farm-to fork-dinners and mid-week groceries, enjoying the fellowship while the kids enjoy the playground.

We continue to partner with Wholesome Wave Georgia to double food stamp benefits at the market and have provided over $23,000 in benefits. Not only does the program make healthy choices from local farmers more affordable, it keeps the money in the community. One of my favorite programs is our partnership with Meals on Wheels Atlanta. Each week we buy over 150 lbs. of fresh produce from our farmers at market close to provide food to local seniors in need. These are often the only fresh veggies the recipients receive. We are so proud to have supplied over 5,000 lbs. of fresh locally grown veggies to feed our senior community.

As our 10th season comes to a close, we are so grateful for another successful year! The market would not be possible without support from our sponsors: Country FinancialPiedmont HealthcareWholesome Wave Georgia, and Whole Foods Buckhead. We are grateful to our host, The Cathedral of St. Philip, our team of 31 volunteers, our farmers, vendors, and artisans. Most importantly, it is our shoppers who support the market in sun, rain, cold, and summer heat! Without your commitment to the market and to buying local, none of this would be possible.

We wish you a wonderful winter season and look forward to seeing you at our Saturday Market opening April 1-Dec 16 and our Wednesday Evening Market opening April 19-Oct 25.

Sincerely,

Lauren Carey
Executive Director

The real deal

Saturday, December 10

There are just two markets left this season, and they're both inside where it's cozy! So make your list, check it twice, and fill not only those stockings, but also that pantry! And while you're multitasking like a pro, take a quick rest, learn something, and have a little snack at this week's 10:00 a.m. Chef Demo with Atlanta's farm-to-table visionaryAnne Quatrano. You know and love her from destinations like Bacchanalia, Floataway Café, Little Bacch, Star Provisions, and most recently, her Ponce City Market restaurant W. H. Stiles Fish Camp (aka Dub’s). Plan to cross off one more item on that list by picking up a special cookbook, Summerland: Recipes for Celebrating with Southern Hospitality, and getting it signed by Chef Quatrano (books available at the Cathedral store). You're amazing. P.S. In other amazing news, there'll be shrimp for sale this week (because holiday parties need both kinds of cocktails).

Saturday, December 17

You won't want to miss our final PRFM of the season, including a special Holiday Artist Market, where more than 35 local artists will join regular PRFM vendors for some very special shopping inside the cathedral. Comfort and joy

Saturday, December 3

Only three markets remain this season, so start stocking up and don't forget to treat yourself! Stop by our Chef Demo at 10:00 a.m. where Chef Suzanne Vizethann can help you with that. You might remember Chef Suzanne from her catering business, The Hungry Peach, or from her big win on Food Network's CHOPPED. But if you haven't stopped by her most recent success story, Buttermilk Kitchen, what are you waiting for? Suzanne combines her experience working with some of the industry's most creative chefs (Richard Blais and Eli Kirshtein) with her appreciation of time-honored techniques to bring us breakfast and lunch all made from scratch. She uses sustainable, local ingredients, and her monthly fried chicken nights are not to be missed! Let's just say, feeling cozy isn't an issue when Chef Suzanne is around.
